SBTi is an initiative that helps companies around the world set scientific goals in line with the requirements of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to below two degrees. It's a collaboration between the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the UN Global Compact, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the World Resources Institute.
Scope 1 corresponds to direct emissions from self-controlled sources. For Catena's part, these include gas heating of properties under Catena's control, as well as travel by company car.
Scope 2 corresponds to indirect emissions from grid-borne energy use. For Catena, these include district heating consumption and electricity consumption under Catena's control.
Scope 3 corresponds to other indirect emissions over which the company has no direct control but which occur due to Catena's operations. For Catena, these include energy consumption under customer control, business travel, commuting, emissions from construction projects (energy, transport, waste, materials) and other purchased services (eg waste management).
In the autumn of 2020, SBTi approved our targets for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. We will reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50 percent by 2030 compared to 2018, and we have ambitious targets for Scope 3. The target is in line with the reductions required to keep global warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious target in the Paris Agreement.
