Catena updates its sustainability targets

Logistics property company Catena is updating its sustainability targets and advancing its positions regarding sustainable and efficient logistics facilities.

Catena addresses all areas in which the Company is able to act even more sustainably in a systematic way. During 2021, Catena has perceived a need to adjust its sustainability targets, not least based on the thorough internal process for assessing climate risks that the Company has carried out to report in accordance with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and through efforts in preparation for the EU taxonomy. The new sustainability goals presented include:

• Net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030
• The entire portfolio must be net-positive in terms of biodiversity by 2030
• 100 percent of the Group’s lettable area must be environmentally certified by 2030
• Certified as a Great Place to Work with the ambition of achieving a TrustIndex of 85 percent by 2025 (the industry average in Sweden is 82 percent)

“We believe that a responsible company, which continuously develops its operations, is a competitive and attractive company. The new targets will require extensive efforts from us and we are not fully aware of the approach in certain areas. Rather than letting this impede our ambitions – we consider this to be an important part of the process ahead of us,” says Malin Nissen, Catena’s Head of Business Support.

Unlike previously, in the formulation of the targets, greenhouse gas emissions now include indirect emissions from construction of new buildings and extensions, as well as major renovations. The new biodiversity target entails an increased focus on safeguarding biological diversity in connection with changes in how land is used. In efforts to achieve a more sustainable property industry, Catena considers this an aspect of increasing importance in the decision-making processes that new projects entail. At the same time, Catena notes a need to develop methods for assessing biodiversity.

We operate in a complex logistics network that is critical for a well-functioning society, which is why it is so important that it is designed more sustainably in all regards, and in a manner that can be followed up. We want to assume responsibility and, with the new targets, we are involved in the development and will, over time, be able to exert a positive influence on both the environment and our stakeholders,” affirms Catena’s CEO, Jörgen Eriksson.
