Transparent climate calculations

Catena has developed guidelines for climate calculations to ensure that all new construction is climate calculated in a systematic, standardized, and uniform manner.

Catena is a company with high ambitions. All new construction must comply with the EU taxonomy, which requires climate calculations to be carried out. Furthermore, all Catena's new construction projects in Sweden must be certified according to BREEAM-SE, and larger projects must also be certified with NollCO2. Catena also has internal limits to limit the climate impact of its projects. The limits are reviewed in connection with the application to the global climate initiative SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative), which helps companies set science-based climate targets in line with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C target.

Catena's approach

To ensure a consistent approach to climate calculations, Catena has developed guidelines that address variations between different system guidelines. The methodology enables comparability between projects and provides a transparent picture of each project's climate impact.

Catena also undertakes to report the proportion of reused, recycled, and bio-based materials in connection with new production, which further strengthens transparency and drives the transition towards circular and climate-smart material choices.

The guidelines are mainly used internally at Catena and by consultants who perform climate calculations, not by subcontractors or suppliers.
